A single Microsoft Forms form on a business plan can collect up to 5,000,000 responses, as at 22 September 2026, far more than a firm under 20 staff is ever likely to fill. The 200-question ceiling is the one that matters more in practice: it applies regardless of plan, and there's no setting anywhere that raises it. Once a form is genuinely outgrowing 200 questions, the answer is usually to split it into two forms or move the workflow to a proper list or a small canvas app, not to look harder for a hidden limit to increase.
Character limits inside a question
Below the question count, Forms also caps the length of individual fields. A question's own text can run up to 4,000 characters, and a respondent's free-text answer to a single question is capped the same way, at 4,000. A form's title is capped at 90 characters, its description at 1,700, and a single multiple-choice option at 1,000 characters. None of these are configurable; they're hard limits built into the form editor rather than settings tucked away in an admin centre.
Where the limits page goes quiet
Microsoft's own limits page for Forms is specific about questions, responses and characters, but it doesn't state a maximum file size for a file upload question, or any separate limit for quiz-specific features such as point values or feedback text length. In practice, uploaded files land in the form owner's OneDrive for work or school, or a Microsoft 365 group's SharePoint site for a group form, so the real ceiling is whatever storage quota applies there rather than a Forms-specific number. If a form is collecting large or many attachments from a lot of respondents, that OneDrive or SharePoint quota is worth checking before the form goes out, not after.
