As at 23 September 2026, Microsoft's own publishing documentation lists these channels for a standard-harness agent:
- Teams and Microsoft 365 Copilot, with Entra ID authentication set up automatically
- SharePoint
- Demo Website, auto-generated for internal testing, explicitly not for production use
- Custom Website, your own live site, via an embedded web chat
- Mobile App
- Azure Bot Service channels: Cortana, Slack, Telegram, Twilio, Line, Kik, GroupMe, Direct Line Speech and Email

The Copilot Studio for Teams plan, bundled into select Microsoft 365 subscriptions (it excludes GCC, GCC High, DoD, EDU A1 and SUB SKUs), draws a flat wall rather than a cut-down version of every channel: Teams and Microsoft 365 Copilot are the only two channels it reaches, full stop. A custom website, SharePoint beyond Teams, WhatsApp, Facebook or any Azure Bot Service channel all need the standalone Copilot Studio subscription, regardless of how small the deployment is.
What a custom website embed needs
Publishing to a live website isn't a one-click toggle the way Teams is. It needs an HTML page built around Microsoft's own Web Chat JS bundle, wired to the specific agent's token endpoint, then handed to a web developer to embed on the actual site, internal or external. Microsoft's own instructions have you build and test that page against the auto-generated Demo Website first; the demo site is for teammates and stakeholders to try the agent, and Microsoft states directly that it "isn't intended for production use" and shouldn't be shared with customers. The live Custom Website channel is the same underlying mechanism pointed at your real site instead.
What it means for a firm under 20 staff
A firm under 20 staff building its first internal agent for Teams can stay entirely inside the bundled Teams plan if the Microsoft 365 subscription qualifies, or a standalone subscription used the same way. Either path reaches Teams and Microsoft 365 Copilot with authentication configured automatically. The moment the plan changes, an agent answering customers on the public website, on WhatsApp, or on Facebook instead of staff on Teams, the standalone subscription becomes non-negotiable, because the Teams plan simply cannot reach those channels at any price.
