Where the tier jump actually matters
Bill to Boost is the real functional line: Bill is billing and trust accounting only, and Boost is the first tier with actual case and matter management in a browser. A firm that needs more than invoicing and trust accounting has to clear that jump, roughly double the Bill price on the Australian numbers. Grow's document automation and automated precedents are the next lever, the kind of feature that saves the most time on repeat-shaped matters like conveyancing or standard agreements.
Who this suits, and who it doesn't
On the numbers that exist, it suits an Australian firm choosing between billing-only and full matter management. For a New Zealand firm, it suits someone prepared to ask Smokeball directly whether New Zealand billing, GST and a trust ledger that meets New Zealand's own trust account regulations are actually supported, rather than assuming the Australian product applies unchanged. It doesn't suit a firm that wants a New Zealand vendor with New Zealand support on the phone. For a firm already on Microsoft 365, matter tracking, document handling and fee reporting can be built directly on the licence already paid for: a matter and fee register on Dataverse, NZ$32.40 a user a month, with Power BI Pro at NZ$22.60 for the two or three people who read the report. A build like that runs $8,000 to $18,000, priced and supported in New Zealand from the start. It does not replace trust accounting.
